Makita DBO380 Finishing Sander Dust Port Size and Shop Vac Adapter
The Makita DBO380 is an 18V LXT cordless finishing sander. It smooths flat surfaces and gets right into corners for a fine finish. Even light finish sanding makes very fine dust that hangs in the air.
Makita lists the dust port at 17 mm on the inside and 22 mm on the outer cuff. This is a small port. Our PETG adapter plugs into the 17 mm port and steps it up to any standard shop vac or dust extractor hose. No tape. No clamps.

Makita DBO380 Dust Port Size: 17 mm Round Inlet, 22 mm Outer Cuff
Makita publishes the DBO380 dust connection as 17 mm in and 22 mm out. The 17 mm figure is the inside of the port, which is what our adapter plugs into. The 22 mm figure is the outer cuff that a hose can slip over.
This is one of the smaller ports on a Makita sander. Most shop vac hoses are 1-7/8 inch or 2-1/2 inch, which dwarfs this 17 mm port. That big gap is why a taped hose leaks fine dust everywhere.
A GulpDust adapter fits the 17 mm port on one end and your bigger vac hose on the other end, so you get a tight seal and full suction even on this small port.
How to Connect a Shop Vac to the Makita DBO380
Clear any dust out of the side port first. A clean port gives the best grip.
Push the small end of the PETG adapter into the 17 mm port. It is a friction fit, so it holds with a firm press. Then press your shop vac or dust extractor hose onto the wide end.
Turn the vac on before you start sanding. Because this port is small, a running vac makes a big difference in how much fine dust you catch.
Why Dust Collection Matters on a Finishing Sander
A finishing sander makes very fine dust. Fine dust is the kind that floats in the air and is the worst to breathe. It does not fall to the floor like chips do.
Pulling that dust at the port keeps it out of the air. It also keeps the surface clean so you can see your finish and get it smooth.
For the cleanest finish, match the adapter to the small 17 mm port and run a steady vac. Any shop vac with the right adapter does the main job.
Makita DBO380 Dust Collection FAQ
What size is the dust port on the Makita DBO380?+
Makita lists it as 17 mm on the inside and 22 mm on the outer cuff. It is a small round port on the side of the sander. Our adapter plugs into the 17 mm inlet.
Does the Makita DBO380 work with a regular shop vac?+
Yes, with an adapter. Most shop vac hoses are far bigger than this small 17 mm port. The GulpDust PETG adapter fits the sander port on one end and your vac hose on the other.
Why is the DBO380 dust port so small?+
Finishing sanders are small tools with light dust output, so Makita uses a small 17 mm port. You still need an adapter to step it up to a shop vac hose.
Do I need clamps to attach the adapter?+
No. The adapter is a friction fit. You press it into the port and it holds. The vac hose end works the same way.
Can I print this adapter myself?+
Yes. You can buy the printed PETG part shipped from the US, or download the STL file and print it at home. We suggest PETG with 3 walls and 25 percent infill.
