Makita LXT is a large cordless platform. Tool makers change port sizes between models, and sometimes within one line, so a hose that grips one tool can wiggle and leak on the next. Do not trust a chart. Measure the port on your own tool.
A small gap is still enough that a standard shop vac hose end does not grip the port. It wiggles and leaks air. You need an adapter made for the tool on one end and your hose on the other.
Measure Your Makita Tool
- Look at the dust port. Is it an opening, or a stub that sticks out?
- If it is an opening, measure across the inside with calipers or a ruler. If it is a stub, measure across the outside.
- Measure the end of your hose the same way.

Makita Tool to a Standard Shop Vac
The end of a small shop vac hose is often too small to grip a larger tool port. The fix is a short adapter that starts at the tool and ends at the hose. It grips at both ends. If your shop vac uses a larger hose, the adapter is built for that hose end instead. Measure the end you own.
Makita to a Festool Extractor
An extractor hose end is often smaller than the tool port, so the adapter steps down to meet it. The inside is slightly tapered to keep the airflow smooth.
Performance note: stepping down to a smaller hose cuts airflow slightly. For sanding, this is not noticeable. For circular saw cutting, you may see slightly less chip capture than with a larger hose.
Corded Tools and Older Tools
Corded tools and older tools can have a different port than newer cordless ones from the same maker. Do not assume. Measure the tool in your hand.
Track Saws
A track saw has a dust port on the blade housing that takes a dust bag or a vacuum hose. Track saws are their own case, so measure the port on your saw instead of going by any list.
How to Pick Your Adapter
Three things narrow it down:
- The measurement across your tool port
- The kind of vacuum you are connecting to (shop vac, dust extractor, central system)
- The measurement across the end of your vacuum hose
