Ridgid makes some of the most popular shop vacs in North America. The WD and HD series are in millions of garages and job sites. If you have a Ridgid shop vac and cordless or corded power tools, you will want an adapter to connect them cleanly.
This guide shows how to measure your Ridgid hose and your tool port so the part is printed to your numbers.
Know Your Ridgid Hose
Shop vacs are usually sold with a 1-1/4 inch, 1-7/8 inch, or 2-1/2 inch hose, and the hose that came with your vac may differ from a neighbor's model. Those are trade names, so measure the real end of your own hose.
- Take calipers or a ruler.
- Measure across the outside of the tool end of the hose.
- Write the number down.
Most power tool ports are smaller than a shop vac hose end, which is why an adapter is needed.
Measure Your Tool Port
Tool makers change port sizes between models, and sometimes within one tool line. Do not trust a chart. Measure across the inside of the port opening. Connecting Ridgid to Other Brands and Extractors
The job is the same whatever brand your tool is. The adapter has one end made to your tool port and one end made to your Ridgid hose. Give us the two numbers and we print it.
If you plan to run a tool with an extractor-style hose, such as a Festool tool, be careful about filtration. Connecting a non-HEPA shop vac to a sander means fine dust can pass through the filter. If you use a Ridgid vac for regular sanding, add a HEPA filter bag.
Ridgid Shop Vac Filters
Ridgid shop vacs come with two filter types: the cartridge filter (round, dry use) and the foam filter (wet/dry use). For dust collection from power tools:
- Remove the foam sleeve when doing dry dust work. The foam restricts airflow and is not needed for sawdust.
- Use the cartridge filter only for dry work. Water destroys the paper cartridge.
- Add a HEPA filter bag for fine dust from sanders and routers.
Ridgid model VF5000 is a HEPA fine dust filter replacement that fits several Ridgid shop vac models. It is a direct upgrade over the standard cartridge for shops where sanding is common.
Some Ridgid models have a shake-to-clean feature built into the filter collar. Press the button to tap the filter and knock loose dust after each session. This cuts down on how often you need to pull the filter for a full cleaning.

- Number one: the width of your tool port, and whether you measured the inside or the outside.
- Number two: the width of the end of your Ridgid hose.
