Bauer 58862 Disc Sander Dust Port Size and Shop Vac Adapter
The Bauer 58862 is a 12 inch benchtop disc sander sold at Harbor Freight. A disc this size removes a lot of wood fast, and all of that wood turns into fine dust. A good hose hookup at the port keeps that dust out of the air and off your bench.
Harbor Freight's spec table lists the dust port at 2 inches, which is 50.8 mm. That is a nominal size, not a measured one, so check your own port with a ruler or calipers before you buy. A GulpDust PETG adapter fits the port on one end and your shop vac hose on the other. No tape. No clamps.

Bauer 58862 Dust Port Size: 2 in (50.8 mm) Nominal, Rear Port
Harbor Freight lists the dust collection port on the 58862 at 2 inches, or 50.8 mm. That number comes from the retailer's spec table, not a caliper reading, so treat it as a close guide. Measure your own port before you order.
A 2 inch port is a tricky size. It looks like it should take a 2-1/2 inch shop vac hose, but that hose end is too big and just flops around. Smaller 1-7/8 inch hose ends do not seal either. That gap is why so many disc sanders run with no hose at all.
A GulpDust adapter closes that gap. One end matches the sander port. The other end matches your vac or dust collector hose. Push it in and the friction fit holds.
How to Connect a Shop Vac to the Bauer 58862 Disc Sander
First, measure the port. Calipers across the inside of the rear port opening should read close to 50.8 mm, about 2 inches. If your number is different, order to match what you measured.
Clean any dust out of the port. Push the small end of the PETG adapter into the port. It is a friction fit, so a firm press seats it. Then push your shop vac hose onto the other end.
Turn the vac on before you start sanding. Disc dust is fine and light, and the vac only helps while it is running.
Why a 12 in. Disc Sander Needs Dust Collection
A 12 inch disc removes material fast. Every pass turns wood into fine dust that floats instead of falling. Without a hose, it coats the table and hangs in the air where you breathe.
Pulling dust at the port also keeps the disc cleaner. A clean disc cuts better and the paper lasts longer.
Any shop vac with the right adapter does the main job. Match the adapter to the port, keep the vac running, and the sander stays clean.
Bauer 58862 Dust Collection FAQ
What size is the dust port on the Bauer 58862?+
Harbor Freight's spec table lists it at 2 inches, which is 50.8 mm. It is a round port at the rear of the sander. That is a nominal size, so measure your own port with calipers before you buy.
Does the Bauer 58862 work with a regular shop vac?+
Yes, with an adapter. Common shop vac hose ends are 1-7/8 inch or 2-1/2 inch, and neither seals on a 2 inch port. The GulpDust PETG adapter fits the sander port on one end and your vac hose on the other.
Will a 2-1/2 inch dust collector hose fit the Bauer 58862?+
Not by itself. A 2-1/2 inch hose end is bigger than the 2 inch port, so it will not seal. Use an adapter that steps the port up to your hose size. Measure both ends first.
Do I need clamps or tape to attach the adapter?+
No. The adapter is a friction fit. You press it into the port and it holds. The vac hose end works the same way.
Can I print this adapter myself?+
Yes. You can buy the printed PETG part shipped from the US, or download the STL file and print it at home. We suggest PETG with 3 walls and 25 percent infill.
