Makita KP0810 Planer Chip Port Size and Shop Vac Adapter
The Makita KP0810 is a 3-1/4 inch corded hand planer. It shaves wood fast and makes a big pile of chips. A planer does not throw fine dust like a sander. It fires large curls and shavings out of the chip port, and they pile up quick.
Makita lists the chip port at 45 mm on the inside and 50 mm on the outer cuff. Our PETG adapter plugs into the 45 mm port and steps it to any standard shop vac or dust extractor hose. No tape. No clamps.

Makita KP0810 Chip Port Size: 45 mm Round Inlet, 50 mm Outer Cuff
Makita publishes the KP0810 dust connection as 45 mm in and 50 mm out. The 45 mm figure is the inside of the chip port, which is what our adapter plugs into. The 50 mm figure is the outer cuff that a larger hose can slip over.
A planer moves a lot of chips, so the port is wider than the port on a sander or a router. A small 27 mm hose would clog fast. A big 2-1/2 inch shop vac hose does not seat right on the port. That size gap is why chips spray out when you tape a hose on.
A GulpDust adapter fits the 45 mm port on one end and your bigger vac hose on the other end, so you get a tight seal and steady pull on the chips.
How to Connect a Shop Vac to the Makita KP0810
Clear any chips out of the rear port first. A clean port gives the best grip.
Push the small end of the PETG adapter into the 45 mm port. It is a friction fit, so it holds with a firm press. Then press your shop vac or dust extractor hose onto the wide end.
Turn the vac on before you start planing. A planer makes chips fast, so run the vac the whole time to keep the port clear and stop the chips from backing up.
Why Planers Need a Strong Chip Pull
A planer does not make much fine dust. It makes big wood curls and shavings. Those chips fill a port fast and can jam it if the air flow is weak.
Pulling the chips at the port keeps the tool from clogging and keeps your bench clear. It also stops chips from flying back at your face.
For the best result, match the adapter to the 45 mm port and use a vac with strong air flow. A shop vac with a wide hose pulls the chips the best.
Makita KP0810 Dust Collection FAQ
What size is the chip port on the Makita KP0810?+
Makita lists it as 45 mm on the inside and 50 mm on the outer cuff. It is a round port at the rear of the planer. Our adapter plugs into the 45 mm inlet.
Does the Makita KP0810 work with a regular shop vac?+
Yes, with an adapter. Most shop vac hoses are 1-7/8 inch or 2-1/2 inch, which does not match the 45 mm port. The GulpDust PETG adapter fits the planer port on one end and your vac hose on the other.
Will a planer clog my shop vac with chips?+
A planer makes big chips, so use a vac with strong air flow and empty it often. A wide hose and a clear adapter help the chips move through without a jam.
Do I need clamps to attach the adapter?+
No. The adapter is a friction fit. You press it into the port and it holds. The vac hose end works the same way.
Can I print this adapter myself?+
Yes. You can buy the printed PETG part shipped from the US, or download the STL file and print it at home. We suggest PETG with 3 walls and 25 percent infill.
