SKIL BW9501 Band Saw Dust Port Size and Shop Vac Adapter
The SKIL BW9501-00 is a 9 in. stationary band saw for the home shop. A band saw looks clean because the chips fall below the table. It is not. The blade drags fine dust down into the lower cabinet, and that dust drifts back out every time the saw runs.
The store listing states the dust port accepts standard 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) vacuum hoses. That is a stated size, not one we measured, so check your own port before you buy. A GulpDust PETG adapter matches the port on one end and your shop vac hose on the other. No tape. No clamps.

SKIL BW9501 Dust Port Size: 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) Stated, Measure to Confirm
The Lowe's listing states the port on the BW9501-00 accepts standard 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) vacuum hoses. That is the size class most full size shop vacs use, which is good news. It is also a stated size, not a measured one. Treat it as a close guide and measure your own port before you order.
One warning. SKIL has sold more than one 9 in. band saw. The older 3386-01 uses a much smaller 1-1/2 in. port. The two saws look alike in photos, so go by the model number on the plate, not by the size of the saw.
Even inside the 2-1/2 in. class, hose cuffs vary by brand. If your hose sits loose on the port or will not seat at all, a GulpDust adapter printed for your exact port and hose gives you a snug friction fit.
How to Connect a Shop Vac to the SKIL BW9501 Band Saw
Unplug the saw first. Then wipe the dust off the rear port so the adapter can seat clean and seal all the way around.
Press the small end of the PETG adapter into the port. It is a friction fit, so a firm push is all it takes. Then press your shop vac hose onto the other end.
Turn the vac on before the blade touches wood. A band saw pulls dust down into the cabinet from the first inch of the cut, so the vac needs to be pulling right away.
Why Band Saws Need Dust Collection
A band saw makes fine dust, not big chips. The teeth carry that dust down through the table slot and pack it into the lower cabinet, around the wheel and the guides.
Packed dust is bad for the saw and worse for your lungs. The fine stuff hangs in the air long after the cut is done.
Pulling the dust at the port keeps the cabinet clean and the air safer. Any shop vac with the right adapter does the main job.
SKIL BW9501-00 Dust Collection FAQ
What size is the dust port on the SKIL BW9501?+
The listing states the port accepts standard 2-1/2 in. (63.5 mm) vacuum hoses. That is a stated size, not a measured one, so measure your own port with calipers before you buy.
Is the BW9501 port the same as the older SKIL 3386-01?+
No. The 3386-01 lists a smaller 1-1/2 in. (38.1 mm) port. The two saws look alike, so check the model plate before you order an adapter.
Does the SKIL BW9501 work with a regular shop vac?+
Yes. The port is in the 2-1/2 in. class most shop vacs use. Hose cuffs still vary by brand, so if your hose sits loose, a printed adapter seals the joint.
Do I need clamps to attach the adapter?+
No. The adapter is a friction fit. You press it in and it holds. The vac hose end works the same way.
Can I print this adapter myself?+
Yes. You can buy the printed PETG part shipped from the US, or download the STL file and print it at home. We suggest PETG with 3 walls and 25 percent infill.
