WEN HB424V Belt Sander Dust Port Size and Vacuum Adapter Guide
The WEN HB424V is a 10 amp, 4 x 24 in. variable speed belt sander that works handheld or flipped over as a benchtop sander. A 4 x 24 belt is the big gun of handheld sanding, and it makes dust to match. Hooking a shop vac to the port pulls that dust at the source, so it fills the vac instead of your shop air.
WEN publishes the port size, which most brands never do. The onboard port is 30.7 mm (1.2 in.) inside and 35.7 mm (1.4 in.) outside. Note that this is smaller than the port on WEN's 3 inch sanders. A GulpDust PETG adapter matches this exact port on one end and your shop vac hose on the other, so the hose seals instead of falling off.

WEN HB424V Dust Port Size: 30.7 mm Inside, 35.7 mm Outside
The onboard dust port on the HB424V takes the included dust bag or a hose. WEN states the size in the manual and on the product page: 1.2 in. (30.7 mm) inside and 1.4 in. (35.7 mm) outside.
Heads up: this is NOT the 1-1/4 in. port that WEN's 3 inch belt sanders use. It is a touch smaller. An adapter made for the HB321V or HB6319 will sit loose on this sander, so order by your exact model.
Most shop vac hoses are 1-7/8 inch or 2-1/2 inch, and neither seals on a 30.7 mm port by itself. A GulpDust adapter is printed to match this port on one end and your vac hose on the other, so you get a snug fit with no tape and no clamps.
How to Connect a Shop Vac to the WEN HB424V
First, pull the dust bag off and clear any packed dust out of the port, so the seal is tight.
Press the small end of the PETG adapter onto the port. It is a friction fit, so a firm push holds it. Press your shop vac hose onto the other end. Turn the vac on before the belt touches wood.
If you flip the sander over for benchtop use, route the hose off the back edge of your bench, so it does not crowd your hands while you feed stock.
Big Belt, Big Dust: Why the HB424V Needs a Vac
A 4 x 24 belt removes wood faster than any other handheld sander, so it also makes fine dust faster than any other handheld sander. The cloth bag traps chips and lets the fine dust through.
A shop vac on the port pulls that fine dust away before it spreads. Run the vac every time and the sander stays a workhorse instead of a dust storm.
WEN HB424V Dust Collection FAQ
What size is the dust port on the WEN HB424V?+
The port is round. It is 30.7 mm (1.2 in.) on the inside and 35.7 mm (1.4 in.) on the outside. Those numbers come from the WEN owner's manual and product page.
Is the WEN HB424V port the same as other WEN belt sanders?+
No. The HB321V, HB6319, and 20418 all use a 31.75 mm (1-1/4 in.) port. The HB424V port is smaller at 30.7 mm inside, so it needs its own adapter. Order by your exact model number.
Does the WEN HB424V work with a regular shop vac?+
Yes, with the right adapter. A standard shop vac hose is wider than the sander port. The GulpDust PETG adapter fits the port on one end and your vac hose on the other, so the hose stays put while you sand.
Do I need clamps or tape to attach the adapter?+
No. The adapter is a friction fit. You push it onto the port and it holds. The same goes for the vac hose end.
Can I print this adapter myself?+
Yes. You can buy the printed PETG part shipped from the US, or download the STL file and print it at home. We suggest PETG with 3 walls and 25 percent infill.
